Turbocharger Inlet – 2.5TFSI Audi RS3 (8V.2) & TTRS (8S)
Overview
The 2.5 TFSI engine found in the RS3 8V.2 & TTRS 8S is capable of incredible power gains even with the stock turbo, but replacing the stock component with a precisely engineered inlet pipe allows your turbo to breathe freely whilst reducing turbulence and heat transfer. When you start to increase performance you need to reduce restriction to airflow to maximize potential gains.
Key Features
- Reduces airflow restriction by an average of 20%
- True 4″ inlet diameter
- Zircotec© heat-reflective ceramic coating
- RHD and LHD fitment
- Full cast aluminium precision machined
Airflow
The main design focus of the Revo turbocharger inlet pipe was to increase the internal volume and increase the airflow directly into the turbo. The data gained from extensive testing of the stock part showed that increasing the inlet size to 4” and maintaining that internal cross-sectional area throughout as much of the pipe as possible produced significant airflow increases and subsequent performance gains on the 2.5 TFSI platform.
Design
As with every Revo hardware part, the Revo design balances overall size increase and fitment within the available engine bay volume. The Revo pipe size is designed to maximise internal volume whilst maintaining fitment for both LHD and RHD vehicles. The Revo turbocharger inlet pipe utilises a clever geometry design to expand the internal volume to ensure external part clearance and offers a smooth and tapered internal route for airflow to the turbocharger.
Thermal Performance
Another unique design feature of the Revo turbocharger inlet pipe is the part’s thermal management properties, which address heat issues that are often associated with the 2.5 TSFI engine. The Zircotec © coating used is a ceramic/metal hybrid mixture with superior thermal resistance properties reducing heat absorption and preventing loss of performance. Insulating the Revo pipe on all sides with this coating aids this thermal management from both direct exhaust manifold radiative heat as well as general engine bay heat reflected onto the pipe.
PCV Routing
Another aspect of increasing the airflow capability of the Revo inlet pipe is removing the internal flow destabilization geometry on the stock part caused by the internal PCV routing. To remove this restriction the Revo inlet includes an external PCV system that routes around the exterior of the pipe, without affecting the internal geometry and allowing the smoothest internal airflow possible.
Research & Development
All Revo products are designed in-house and are rigorously tested utilising an in-house 3D printer and 3D scanner, latest CAD and CFD programs, hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The Revo turbocharger inlet pipe allows the turbo to run more efficiently, ingesting a larger volume of air and minimising turbulence to increase both power and torque, as highlighted during controlled dyno testing.
